The beautiful city of Turrialba is embedded in a valley, -known as the valley of the gods- surrounded by mountains and rivers, it has an imposing view of the Turrialba Volcano at the Northeast side. The city is located barely 64 Km. Southeast of San José and 108 Km. West of Puerto Limón. Its altitude is 639 meters over sea level.
Rivers Colorado and Turrialba cross it. To the Southeast of the Valley of Turrialba is also river Reventazón, one of the most voluminous of the country, source of hydropower generation for important Engineering projects.
Development of activities like cattle and agriculture, is predominant in the canton, with sugar cane and coffee cultivation, cattle raising and dairy production. However, there is an important development of horticultural activities (cabbage, onions and carrots) characteristic of higher areas and soils of volcanic nature and cattle activity.
This region is loaded with outdoor activities, and agricultural and cultural tours.
This is an area of varied attractions for adventure, counting with some beautiful rivers, as the Pacuare and Reventazón, which are suited to practice rafting, well-known national parks as the Guayabo Archeological Park, Turrialba Volcano's national park, where you may walk until you reach the summit of the volcano, where it's possible to descend to the craters, and admire the landscape and birds.
