The Valley Package (3 days 2 nights) - Turrialba - Costa Rica

Itinerary

The following itinerary has been designed for clients driving on their own, or for those with private transportation. You can always take a public transportation.

Day 1
Arrival to Turrialba. Our check in is at 2 pm, anyways you are always welcome to arrive earlier and enjoy our facilities. Relax in our terraces and gardens, or take a tour around our coffee corner where we have just for you fresh fruits, pastries and of course tasty Turrialba coffee. You might want to have lunch on the way to Turrialba or please let us know if you plan to get by lunch to Villa Florencia. (Lunch is not included in this package)

Please notice that you must be on time for the tour that departs at 5 pm from our hotel. The Golden Night Tour takes you to the Golden Bean - Coffee Tour. This is a different way to discover all about the coffee, gardens and plantations are nicely lighted. Visit Grano de Oro a century old coffee mill nestles in the valley surrounded by beautiful rain forest and mountains. Learn about the seeding and techniques used to group this treasured product. See how locals have been picking the crop by hand for over 200 years. Enjoy a cup during"cupping" or tasting session. Continuing this coffee experience, we will take a 15 minutes drive until we will get to the best hilltop restaurant - Turrialtico Restaurant. Overlooking the Turrialba lights a typical and tasty dinner will be served.

Overnight at Villa Florencia:

Day 2
Begin the day with a peaceful and quite morning. Enjoy your breakfast at the open terrace of your hotel, surrounded by gardens and with the songs of the early birds. Feel just like home and order your breakfast of your choice.

Today you will choose between two tours and depart either to,
-One of the major attractions of the area, the Turrialba Volcano
or
- The Canyoning Tour - Experience a Full Adrenaline Tour


Both tours include transportation and lunch. On day one, upon arrival to the hotel, we will like to know your tour choice.

CANYONING
This activity involves rappelling and descending cliffs and waterfalls within the canyon. The equipment for this activity - ropes, harnesses and carabiners - are the same tools that are used in rock-climbing. The canyon that we explore in our Canyoning tour is located in the Puente Vigas Canyon. Our course guarantees you a memorable, safe, and thrilling day of Canyoning as we rappel down waterfalls, zip-line through the treetops, and enjoy the unique, natural beauty of this country. This tour takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.

We begin the Canyoning tour with an introduction of our guides and the equipment to help familiarize you with the different uses of the equipment. We start the tour at the first waterfall where a guide will give a speech on safety. The guide will explain the course and the equipment making sure you know the necessary mechanisms and procedures for canyoning, ensuring you a safe and fun experience. After this, you are off...rappelling down four waterfalls, zip lining down four canopy cables, descending down two tall trees and walking across a 132 foot hanging bridge - all giving you an unforgettable adrenaline rush!

TURRIALBA VOLCANO HIKING ADVENTURE
The Turrialba volcano is located in the Central Mountain Range of Costa Rica and reaches an altitude of 10,955 feet. It is one of the most unique active volcanoes in Costa Rica in that trekkers are able to hike down inside the main crater and explore and observe the life and views from inside the volcano.

We start the tour from Turrialba where we load into our 4-wheel drive transport and head north to the volcano. During the 1 hour and 45 minute drive to the crater you will be amazed at the views of the Turrialba valley and by the landscape as we get closer to the top of the volcano. You will be leaving the tropical jungle behind and climbing into the beautiful high-elevation cloud forest and beyond that to the páramo. As you climb into the clouds you will feel like you are leaving Costa Rica behind as the temperature gets colder and the vegetation changes dramatically.

Once we arrive at the top, we begin the hike down into the crater. On the way down you see a number of very interesting plants that only grow in this high altitude and unique climate. Once in the crater, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Caribbean coastline of Costa Rica. After taking a few minutes to enjoy this view, we continue the hike down where you can begin to see the three distinct craters that make up the cone of the volcano. The oldest of the craters is thousands of years old and is no longer active and the youngest one is less than 200 years old. This youngest crater has been becoming increasingly active over the last five years and you will be able to see how this activity is affecting the fragile vegetation of the crater. After hiking around and in the craters we will hike back out of the crater and have a snack before heading back down to Turrialba.

Day 3
Breakfast at Villa Florencia. You might want to consider before leaving to include a morning activity in the area such as a visit to CATIE - Botantical Garden Tour or a Pacuare -White Water Rafting Tour, and then on the way continue to the Caribbean Area. If taking the Pacuare Rafting Tour we will help you coordinate your car drop off at the end of the tour, and continue your trip.
